Why
work
with Fleurian?
My ideal client is someone who finds themselves in the in-between spaces—struggling, grieving, questioning, evolving. Whether you’re processing overwhelming emotions, trauma, or loss, facing life transitions, or exploring identity or spirituality, you don’t have to go through it alone. I hold deep respect for the full range of human emotions and experience, and I consider it a privilege to walk alongside clients in these tender, transformational moments. In therapy, we co-create a space where your truth can emerge, where you can feel seen and supported. My intention is to help you reconnect with your inner resources, access a greater sense of ease, and discover a clearer path forward.
Who am I.
My name is Fleurian Maxton. I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), and a member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA).
After nearly 20 years of experience as an Ontario Certified Teacher and a vice-principal, I come to mental health with a deep commitment to accessible care and well-being. Supporting individuals and families with emotional distress, identity and self-esteem, relationships, gender identity and expression, mental health, dying and death, grief, loss, and spiritual growth is at the heart of what I offer.
I am currently a graduate student in the practicum phase of my Master’s of Arts in Counselling Psychology program. I hold a Bachelor’s of Education (2007), a Bachelor of Social Science in Sociology (2006), and a range of additional qualifications in areas such as the Arts and Indigenous Studies. I have been a Reiki practitioner since 2008 and hold certifications in the Foundations of Applied Mindfulness Meditations (2018), Mindfulness-Informed End of Life Care (2019), and a 200-hour Hatha Yoga Teacher Training (2020). Most recently—as a commitment to continued education and lifelong learning—I completed a 60-hour Somatic EMDR training (2025) to bring additional somatic tools to my work with clients.

Being a human, in a world that is quick to pathologize individuals (i.e,. for having big emotions when facing relationship breakdowns, loss of employment, pregnancy loss, systemic violence or harm, and so many other major life experiences), it is important to have supports in place to resource yourself in ways that help you to face each day as it comes. This is not about perfection, but the presence to know when you’ve reached your capacity and how to set boundaires around the limited time or energy you may have. Psychotherapy can be one resource on this journey.
-
Grief, is a non-linear, deeply personal inner process that does not follow a prescribed timeline. When faced with loss, making sense of the world can take time and great care. Whether mourning a loved one (e.g., a pet or human), the end of a relationship or career path, or facing a significant, unexpected change in your life, sitting with a compassionate witness can make a world of difference. As a therapist who is skilled in travelling the inner dimensions and emotional landscapes, with you, I see my role as a supportive, fellow traveller.

Whether chosen or unexpected, major life changes and transitions can bring to life uncertainty, stress, and a whole host of challenges and emotions. This can be sensitively confronting to our view of the world and especially our place in it. Through the exploration of existential belonging and in finding ways to reorient you towards greater authenticity, my role is to support you in helping to arrive in a new place of being. In our sessions, we get curious about alignment and the very inner work we can do together to help you rearchitect your relationship with existence.

Spirituality is at the heart of my therapeutic approach, inviting clients into community and deeper connection with self. Drawing on my background as a Reiki Grandmaster, Hatha Restorative Yoga teacher, contemplative writer, and meditator, I offer a space where healing unfolds through awareness, compassion, and balance. Together, we explore and witness the wisdom of the body, the texture of the mind, and how your connection to energy/Spirit/God can support your emotional and psychological well-being. Each session becomes an opportunity to re-attune to your innate wholeness and inner peace.

I aim to provide safe and affirming care that honours your sovereignty as a human being. I believe in your choice to explore your sense of self—from identity to relationships, sexuality to gender. This spectrum is one worthy of exploration. Whether navigating your own coming out journey, gender evolution and/or transition, or whether facing systemic injustice, the therapeutic room is place for you to be expressly visible, as you are witnessed in a resource-rich space of belonging.
The way we find our way to meaning is the process that we must travel, with and for ourselves. Be it in the spaciousness of community or the introspective and sacredness of individual, direct experience—there is no one right way of making meaning. There is simply the way that is right and aligned for you.
